Final Construction Update

The 2011-1 Street Rehabilitation Project has reached its conclusion for the 2011 construction season. Additional work will resume in the spring of 2012 to place the final wearing course on Sunset Boulevard, Hartford Street and 3^rdStreet. Sellin Brother’s, Inc. has completed all of the necessary project requirements for this year and you may see them out and about finalizing a few of the minor details around the construction area. Construction for this project went smoothly and Sellin Brother’s, Inc. did a great job in finishing the project quickly and on time.

Construction Update No. 8

The 2011-1 Street Rehabilitation project is on its way to being completed for this year. Currently, the paving contractor has completed paving on 15^th Street and Hobart Street. Paving will continue on Westgate Circle, Sunset Boulevard, Hartford Street (4^th Street to 9^th Street) and 3^rd Street. In addition, there will be asphalt patching performed in 7-locations around the City to correct areas where a water main break existed or the pavement deteriorated and the patch is required to attempt to prevent it from further deterioration and spreading.

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. is also busy staying in front of the paving contractor while performing clean up on the project. Area that were disturbed behind the boulevard are being re-established with 5-inches of imported topsoil and will be seeded. Other clean-up items will occur throughout the project area as SBI looks to wrap this project up for the year.

As soon as the project is paved the detour and road closure signage will be taken down and the roadways will be opened up for the winter. Resident may notice that not all of the streets are completed entirely. This is due to the wearing course of asphalt being left off until next summer. All roadways with the exception of 15^th Street, Westgate Circle, and Hobart Street will have another lift of asphalt placed on them next summer. This is done to allow for the pavement to settle out in areas where utility work was performed below the roadway surface.

 All of the work slated to be completed this construction season is on track to be completed on or before October 28, 2011. The public’s patience with this project has been greatly appreciated and when the paving work is complete the disturbance within the project area is expected to be minimal.

Construction Update No. 7

The great weather has made it possible for Sellin Brother’s, Inc. to continue work throughout the project area. The utility work on Hartford Street between 4^th and 9^th Streets is nearly complete and the prep work for the roadway is being completed in anticipation for paving. The existing material on 15^th Street has been removed throughout the project area and the class five material has been placed and is likely to be completed  today. The concrete crew will be in town on Monday October 10^th to pour concrete on Sunset Boulevard and then start on the curb and gutter work on Hartford Street between 4^th Street and 6^th Street.  The paving crew is expected to move into town on October 13^th and place the wear course on Sunset Boulevard, 15^th Street and Hartford Street.

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. will be moving toward Third Street early next week to finish the utility work in this area and then finish out the remaining utility work on Westgate Drive and the intersection of Hartford Street. The reclaiming machine will move to town for the last time on this project the first part of the week of October 17 to perform the work required on Hobart Street and it is anticipated that the remaining paving work will be completed during the course of that week.

Turf establishment and cleanup work will be commencing throughout the project over the course of the next few weeks as we near the completion of the project. Barring any unforeseen weather it is anticipated that the project will be wrapped up the last week of October.

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. is a sponsor for Mrs. Nicole Martin’s 3^rd Grade Class through the Hawley Community Partnership Program. On Thursday September 29 the class toured the construction site. We hope they had a great time!

Construction Update No. 6

Work is progressing along Hartford Street and it is anticipated that all of the water main  work will be completed yet this week. The storm sewer work will continue to be installed along Hartford Street as Sellin Brother’s, Inc. (SBI) progresses toward the east. The road reclaiming work will begin again and is scheduled to be on site Thursday September 29, 2011 to reclaim the remaining portion of Hartford Street between 4^th Street and 5^th Street, 3^rd Street between Reno Street and Elizabeth Street, and Westgate Drive between Hartford Street and Main Street.

SBI will be starting work on 3^rd Street next week and will be replacing the water main and services in this area. From 3^rd Street they will move over to Westgate Drive to replace the storm sewer in the intersection of Hartford Street and Westgate Drive and then progress to the south towards Main Street with the roadway replacement.

Curb and gutter work is anticipated next week on Hartford Street Between 5^th Street and 7^th Street. SBI will also be actively working to prepare the subgrade for the new roadbed in areas where the utility work has been completed. As the roadways are prepared it is also anticipated that some paving in the completed areas will be performed during the week of October 10, 2011.

15^th Street is expected to be closed down yet this week and will remain closed for the duration of the project.

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. is a sponsor for Mrs. Nicole Martin’s 3^rd Grade Class through the Hawley Community Partnership Program. On Thursday September 29, 2011 around 2:00 p.m. the 3^rd grade class will be touring the construction site. We hope they have a great time visiting and learning!

Construction Update No. 5

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. (SBI) is actively working in town and has completed the utility workon Sunset Boulevard. SBI moved their forces to Hartford Street where 2 crews are installing the water main and storm sewer utilities.

SBI is progressing with the water main installation on Hartford Street between 9^th Street and 7^th Street. It is expected that the storm sewer work will commence at 7^th Street and Hartford Street and move east yet this week. SBI anticipates having all of the water main work completed throughout Hartford Street sometime next week and working to finish the storm sewer work shortly thereafter.

It is expected that 15^th Street will be closed sometime next week in order for SBI to begin work in the area. It is anticipated that 15^th street will remain closed until the project is complete which will be the end of October, 2011.

During the course of the water main installation & testing residents may experience temporary water outage due to the necessity of isolating the water system throughout the project area and in certain instances adjacent to the project area. These outages will be limited as much as possible.

Your patience with the project is appreciated and we will continue to do our best to keep this project moving forward to completion.

Construction Update No. 4

Sellin Brother’s, Inc. (SBI) will be moving equipment and material to the site on Monday September 12, 2011. Excavation work will begin on Tuesday September 13, 2011 and the initial work will begin at Sunset Boulevard. SBI will be stripping off the reclaim material which was ground up last week and will be stockpiling this material on site to be re-used after the underground utility improvements has been completed. The utility work in this area will consist of the replacement of all water services to the property lines in addition to adding perforated storm sewer and drain tile to help alleviate the groundwater which saturates the subgrade in this area.

The intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Westgate Drive will be closed down on Tuesday (September 13, 2011) morning to complete these operations and it is anticipated that it will be closed for approximately 3-5 days. Barricades and road closure signs will be up to notify residents of the closure. The detour route for this area will be the use of 15^th Street until the roadway is opened back up.

SBI is planning to move to Hartford Street after finishing work on Sunset Boulevard and opening the traffic back up in this area.

Construction Update No. 3

The reclaiming contractor is currently scheduled to be in town to perform the reclaiming work on Sunset Boulevard and Hartford Street between 5^th Street and 9^th Street on Wednesday September 7, 2011. Residents and Businesses in these areas are asked not to have any vehicles parked on the street after the morning (8:00 a.m.) of Wednesday September 7, 2011 as not to impede the reclaiming operations.
